October 2nd – Saturday Dialogue
During our Saturday Dialogue on October 2nd, we will be exploring a new and incredibly relevant and timely topic!
Given the recent turmoil over the proposed Islamic Cultural Center and the ridiculously hateful calls for a “Burn a Koran Day,” we thought it might be ripe time to discuss the intersection of WHITENESS and RELIGION, namely our relationship as white folks to the dominant Judeo-Christian norms of the United States and to ISLAMOPHOBIA. These may not be terms or concepts we are all deeply familiar with, so our dialogue will explore these concepts with a “beginner’s mind” and invite lots of personal sharing.
Please join us! Same time and location as always!

October 2nd – Next Saturday Dialogue
Join us for our next Saturday Dialogue in October!
As always, you can expect insightful and reflective dialogue, a welcoming community, and a specific topic for consideration as it pertains to white privilege, anti-racist practice, and white anti-racist identity.
We meet from 1-4pm at the MCC-LA Church at:

AWARE-LA launches Where do you draw the Line at Hate? weekly poll

It has become increasingly clear with every passing day that hate is on the rise in this country. Whether its from elected officials calling for re-instituting segregationist era voting laws or Tea Party leaders calling for hanging elected officials. If this hate is allowed to grow unchecked where will it end? As long as the majority of white people who are not racist remain silent we are allowing the hate of a minority to speak for all white people. So we are asking the question, “Where do you draw the line at hate?”

An Open Letter to White Progressives and Activists
We write this letter to all those white people concerned with social justice. Who are you? You are social workers and teachers, and artists and organizers. You work in multiracial organizations and non-profits, and you work for queer rights, with incarcerated youth, and with women in domestic violence shelters. You offer medical aid to migrants crossing the border, media arts programs to high school students, and legal counsel to housing rights organizations. You’re angry about climate change and environmental devastation – with poor and working class communities the hardest hit. Read more>>>
